Winter Beauty Favourites

Living in England the weather during winter becomes horribly cold, windy, and wet! And yes, some people may be thinking "England is always like that" and I agree, it is... however there is something about the winter months that dries even the oiliest of complexions, the cold winds biting at whatever skin is exposed! Therefore I am going to shed some light on what products I change up for this weather and what works best for me.

I do have an oily complexion however I find that during winter parts of my face decides to become like the desert, drying up to a flakey mess. For this reason I have been mixing two moisturisers, and although they aren't my absolute holy grail they have been doing their job!
These two products are the Yes To Tomatoes Daily Balancing moisturiser and the Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Oil-Free moisturiser.  I haven't detected any unusual break-outs from using these which is expected for they are for oily skin, however they give the moisture that is needed.

My hair also suffers at this time of year therefore I have been treating it to masks and oils! My two favourites are the Schwarzkopf Essence Ultîme Intensive Mask and the L'Oréal Elvive Extraordinary Oil Mist for Fine Hair. I have been using the mask twice weekly during shower time, it suggests using it for 1 minute but I have been keeping it on for around 3-4 minutes and it works perfectly. I then use the oil daily after styling my hair, or just before bed the morning before a shower for extra nutrition. My hair I believe is noticeably softer and hasn't been brittle during the dry cold weather.

My next favourites are makeup based...

Nars Sheer Glow foundation is probably one of my most favourite foundations of all time, however this winter it seems to be working extra time! It is staying on all day, not budging, lovely coverage, and as the name suggests- has been giving me a beautiful glow in the dull weather.

Next is the Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel... I was having a tough time with this during the summer months so I put it to one side and completely forgot I owned it. Then voilà, I remembered about it, decided to try it, and now I remember why I purchased it. Not only does it go on smoothly and is buildable, but it also stays on all day, not budging - which is perfect for this time of year.

Tarte's Amazonia Clay 12-Hour Blushes are amazing, and I happen to town 'Achiote' a peach/apricot/pink toned blush. It stays on all day as suggested, gives a lovely winter glow, blends lovely and overall has an even finish. I shall definitely be purchasing more colours.

I tend to change my brow products up all the time, however since summer I have religiously been using the Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade in Blonde, and yes I know I am not a blonde (no where near in fact), but the tone is lovely and it too doesn't budge all day either... I cannot falter it!

Lastly to do with makeup are my holy grail lip products of the past month or so... drum roll please...

The By Terry Baume de Rose and its new cousins Baume de Rose Nutri Couleur have been my go to lip products of choice. I now own the original and four of the colours 'Rosy Babe' 'Mandarina Pulp' 'Cherry Bomb' and 'Toffee Cream'. Although pricey, they are moisturising, smooth, beautifully scented balms that go on sheer but can build to a lovely colour and I think they are worth every penny. Admittedly I haven't been using 'Mandarina Pulp' as much because I find it a bit too summery for this time of year, however the others are absolutely divine and I 100% will be picking up one of the other shades this weekend at Space NK! Watch out for a full review of these products!

Lastly, I have a home favourite!

This time of year needs to be filled with festivity (for me personally), and I find the best way to create a comfortable and cosy atmosphere is to fill a room with candlelight. I am obsessed with tea lights and their holders, and I purchased two little red houses and two copper holders for tea lights. I am also obsessed with scented candles and my choice of candle this year has been the Yankee Candle brand with my favourite scent 'Black Coconut'. It has the smell of coconut however it is blended with the scent of spices and woody notes which add a wintery feel to what would be a summer smell and I love it! If I was however still living in Abu Dhabi my candle of choice would definitely be the White Barn candles especially the scent 'Sandalwood Citrus'.

Let me know about some of your favourites!

Bow down to the Queen, Lipstick Queen that is.

Roughly 6 months ago I was feeling adventurous of the SpaceNK website, I purchased the By Terry Baume de Rose lip balm, the Phyto 9 daily hair cream, the Caudalie Beauty Elixir and finally a Lipstick Queen Endless Summer lipstick in Perfect Wave… this is where it's gets interesting.

The Lipstick Queen purchase was so spur of the moment, yet I'm so glad I did it because I love the lipstick- the finish is beautiful, it's creamy (non-sticky!), shiny, nourishing! The Endless Summer line is enriched with natural oils, candelilla wax and vitamin E. The shade is a "A bright, sheer, punchy pink" and it compliments most looks, especially a neutral but defined eye.

After this purchase I thought I'd treat myself to another Lipstick Queen product (bearing in mind this was about a month after!). I decided to go for the new "summer shade" which happened to be… Jungle Queen!
It's made with natural oils and vitamin E, it's non-sticky, but super opaque! This coral/orange is said to pair perfectly with animal print.

Then along came three more (many weeks a part). I now own Endless Summer lipsticks in Stoked (a sheer bright coral), Aloha (a sheer bright fire red), and Hang Ten (a warm nude). They are all creamy, non-sticky, and super moisturising.

My addiction to these lipsticks is definitely not going to stop any time soon!

I especially want to try their Vesuvius liquid lipsticks, particularly the shade Vesuvian Candy.

I hope you enjoyed this blog post!

An Ode to Chanel

I have an obsession with Chanel lip and face products. Mostly the lip products.
(Left-Right) Rouge Coco Shine, Lèvres Scintillantes, Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss, Rouge Allure Lipstick, Rouge Allure Laque
Here's a rundown on the ones I own, my favourites out of the ones I own, and why.

My favourite long lasting lip gloss and the first Chanel item I owned is the lovely Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss. They give a lovely light to medium colour, non-sticky, super moisturising, and they smell amazing!
I have shades 56, 61, 61, 57, 52. My favourites are 56 'Imaginaire' and warm pink and 52 'Génie' a peach.

Another of my favourite glosses are the Lèvres Scintillantes. They are also smooth, non-sticky, gorgeous smelling glosses. There are many shades in this formula to choose from, some creamy- others packed with glitter/shimmer.
I have shades 179 and 161, both pinks.

Rouge Coco Shine's had crazy hype a couple years back, and of course I jumped on the bandwagon- except I never got off! They are a light coverage formula, non-sticky, only last about an hour on the lips… but feel amazing! I have a range of pinks, a nude, and even a bright coral…
I have 54 'Boy', 87 'Rendezvous', 85 'Secret', 69 'Flirt' ;), and 56 'Chance'. My favourite is definitely 56 'Chance', a gorgeous baby pink.

I own three Rouge Allure lipsticks, shades 85 'Coquette', 90 'Pimpante', and 95 'Enjouée'. The formula is creamy, but I find it a little drying for my lips because my lips to suck moisture! The shades are fab though.

And finally, I own two of the Rouge Allure Laque's… they were a lipstick/lipgloss hybrid that although they weren't drying - they didn't add complete moisture. I don't dislike them though, and if Chanel still sold them I would definitely buy a brighter shade. I own 707 and 76.
I hope you enjoyed this post, and I will be doing full swatches of these products, as well as reviews of my Chanel face products!

Tiring Days

So I haven't posted for the past week, however there is a reason behind this!

I've been working at Hyde Park's British Summer Time festival, and I have been working the longest hours and sleeping at every other point. Although my days have been incredibly busy I have had so much fun, and I still have 5 days left... Here are a few pictures to show my time so far!
I'm so smug about my band, get's me anywhere! :)
An amazing rainbow during McBusted's performance of Five Colours in Her Hair!
My colleagues and new friends Clarice and Sophia!
Selfies with Clarice.
And another picture of myself and Clarice, except this time we were 100ft above Hyde Park.
I decided it was a good idea to recline my chair until I actually did it!

I'll be back to regular posts on Monday!

An Unexpected Haul...& OOTD

I had an entire day to do nothing, so I decided to head into central London and see what I could buy. Of course I ended up in Selfridges, and then I had an epiphany and decided to go to Liberty too. I may have bought some unnecessary items, but hey ho it's my money!

Onto the purchases...
Selfridges purchases:
  • Deborah Lippman - Glitter In The Air £18; a gorgeous light blue colour with rose gold and light blue glitter chunks (I hate the word chunks)
  • OCC Lip Tar - Queen £11.50; a hot pink lip colour, which I'm planning on mixing with…
  • OCC Lip Tar Matte- Hush £11.50; a light nude/pink

Liberty purchase:
  • Nars Sheer Glow foundation - Light 4 Deauville £31; so excited to use this! I'll let you know how I get on.

Boots purchases:
  • Good Things Total Wipe Out cleansing wipes £3.49; they're free from parabens, sodium laureth sulphate, mineral oils, and animal ingredients. They seem ok, however I do always cleanse after I use a makeup wipe.
  • Good Things Manuka Honey daily moisturiser £7.99; with royal jelly and bee venom and also free of sodium laureth sulphate, mineral oils, and parabens. I'm in need of a good new moisturiser, so I'll test it for a couple of weeks and see what happens!
  • Sanctuary 5 Minute Thermal Detox Mask £10.50; as recommended by Lily Pebbles, the tube does take it's toll on your skin, and I'll be working very long and very busy hours… I shall be testing this mostly on my t-zone.
  • Ecotools Retractable foundation brush £9.99; this is to go with my Nars Sheer Glow.
  • Ecotools Airbrush concealer brush £5.49; for my concealer, as I seem to be putting it on a little too heavy at the moment.

And here is my OOTD, I've never done one of these so don't mind the shameless selfie in the full length mirror! ;)

Top - H&M organic cotton, Jeans - Topshop Joni, Shoes - White Converse, Bag - Louis Vuitton Speedy 3.0, Bracelet - Tiffany & Co, Rings - random jewellers.

I tried the wipes to remove my makeup and everything seemed fine, however I did notice that they were fragranced strongly. I carried on but then my face started to feel a little tingly and hot so I went to check in the mirror. I am not even kidding when I say my face was bright sunburn/tomato red! I must have had an allergic reaction to these wipes because as I write this my face is on fire. I washed my face with a calming cleanser and now I have an intensive moisturiser on and a repair cream... Praying for the redness to be gone by the morning.
This reaction may not happen with most people, but for a company to specify that it's good for sensitive skin, I was not expecting this reaction. This is just a warning to anyone who may have similar skin to me: combination/oily & sensitive.

My Summer Face

Summer time comes around and it's time to change up your face. Here's the rundown of my summer makeup...
Most people tend to ditch the foundation in the summer months, but I find that BB and CC creams are too much for my oily skin. My foundation of choice is Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua, it's lightweight but gives a medium to full coverage, but somehow still looks natural. I set my foundation with the Ben Nye Cameo powder, it's super fine milled and doesn't give a powdery look, but keeps my oily t-zone matte. I also use MAC Studio Finish concealer and Benefit Erase Paste, both creamy. The first is used for blemishes and the Erase Paste is for my under eye.

I flit between my Nars Laguna Bronzer and Bourjois Chocolate Bronzer for the obvious bronzing of the face. Sometimes I use both, just because it gives a really nice sun kissed finish. I use Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge for my blush, and depending on the day I either use Pale Pink or Calypso Coral. Both set really nicely, looking natural on my pale skin. They can go on really lightly or really bright depending on the application. I use my fingers most of the time for application, but a stippling brush also does a nice job.

Brows are my best friend at the moment and I love Soap and Glory Archery in combination with the Maybelline Brow Drama brow gel. Archery adds definition and colour to my brow, where the gel sets my brows with a tint of colour. They look natural as far as I'm aware and I love it.

I've been doing my eyes more natural recently, I've been using the Smashbox Limitles 15 Hour Wear Cream Shadow in Rose Gold and then I use the Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow in Blonde which I usually use as a crease colour. If I want to add a bit of drama then I use the Bare Minerals loose eyeshadow, but the colour has rubbed off. I received a sample of the YSL Babydoll Mascara and it's amazing… I get defined eyelashes, each lash is separated and they look really long.

Oh I forgot to mention the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfecter in Opal… my favourite highlighter at the moment, it's creamy and smooth and looks like I'm glowing. LOVE.

As far as lips are concerned, I change it up most days… look to my previous post to see some of my favourites!

Thank you for reading,

Lip Product Addict Tag

Hi I'm Emily and I'm an addict.

An addict to lip products that is! Well, and maybe a few tv shows such as Orange is the New Black which I junk watched fyi… (ooh maybe a post on my favourite shows of the moment would be good? or not, because I would just ramble.)
However, getting back to the serious matter at hand here, lip products!

So let's start…

1. Favourite Balm/Treatment
This is hands down the By Terry Baume de Rose, creamy and non-sticky it instantly smooths and moisturisers my lips, leaving a gorgeous light pink tint on my lips.

By Terry Baume de Rose

2. Best eye-catching Red
I'm not a big red lip wearer, and in all honesty I got rid of most of my red lipsticks. The only one that stuck was the MUFE #43 Moulin Rouge, Rouge Artist Intense lipstick. It's a bright, orange based lipstick that is extremely opaque.

Make up for ever #43 Moulin Rouge, Rouge Artist Intense

3. Best Luxury & Best Drugstore
I absolutely love the Giorgio Armani lipsticks, in all the formulas. My favourite being Rouge D'Armani Sheer in 505, it is a gorgeous baby pink colour.
I also love the Lipstick Queen lipsticks, especially the formulas of the Endless Summer lipsticks and the Jungle Queen lipstick- also gorgeous shades.

For drugstore lip products it has to be Revlon in general. I have multiple products by them, but the majority is the chubby stick style products. Matte, glossy, or the normal balm form- all brilliant!

Giorgio Armani - Rouge D'Armani - 505
Lipstick Queen - Endless Summer, shades "Perfect Wave" and "Stoked"
Lipstick Queen - Jungle Queen
Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain
Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm
Revlon ColorBurst Lacquer Balm

4. Best MAC Lipstick
I tend to not wear mac lipsticks anymore, not because I hate them but because I've found alternatives that I love. However, if I had to pick one, and I do, it would have to be morange

MAC Amplified Cream - Morange

5. The Most Disappointing
Smashbox Heat Wave Summer 2013 lip enhancing gloss set. Now, the colours are absolutely fantastic… there's a soft pink, a hot fuchsia, a bright orange, and then coppery-bronze shade. The applicator is doe foot style, except it is a little larger than usual. I had high hopes, but as soon as I put them on my lips they were way too sticky! The stickiness overpowered the lovely colour. Also, the large applicator made it a little difficult to apply the product, making it messier than it should have been.

Smashbox Heave Wave Summer 2013 Lip Enhancing Gloss Set
Shades: Electric Orange, VIP Pink, Fuchsia Flash, Copper Remix

6. Liner - yes or no?
I'd love to say yes, but it's a no. I own 3 in total - a nude, a pink, and a dark plum. I tend to not wear them because I prefer a more relaxed look however there are times when I just want a more defined lip. Especially when it comes to the dark lipsticks I love in winter.

Boots No7 Precision Lip Pencil - Nude
Rimmel Exaggerate Automatic Lip Liner - Eastend Snob
MAC Lip Pencil - Nightmoth

7. Best Gloss
Buxom Full-On Lip Cream.. hands down. It's as suggested, it's creamy and smooth to apply, it is a plumping product though so it has a cold tingly effect. It smells of peppermint- which I love.

If you're adverse to plumping glosses then my second in command is definitely Chanel Lèvres Scintillantes Glossimer lip glosses. They come in creamy formulas or shimmery, or even glittery is you're a fan of that.

Buxom Full-On Lip Cream - "Lavender Cosmo" and "Berry Blast"
Chanel Lèvres Scintillantes Glossimer - "161 Bagatelle" and "179 Murmure"

8. Something Extra
I'll call this my notable mention(s)…

The Lanolips brand as a whole!

Lanolips 101 Ointment is another Holy Grail product for me. The website says "*Multi-Award Winning* Rediscover the magic of lanolin in this heavy-duty, 100% natural ointment like no other. Lanolips 101 Ointment is the purest of pure wonder ointment, made with Lanolips’ exclusive 100% Ultra Pure Grade Lanolin. This magical multi-purpose product has multiple uses such as extremely chapped lips, dry cuticles, dry, itchy skin, dry nasal passages and more."
It's also animal cruelty free- which is an added bonus! It really does do what it says, I use it for lips and elbows and pretty much any other dry patch I find… go out and treat yourself to some, it's a miracle worker!
(However my tube did break, so it is now houses in a travel pot, which in my opinion works just as well)

They also do the coloured glosses, which work just as well as lip treatments, except you can choose from muted pinks to a red or even a coral. Oh and let's not forget Lemonaid Lip Aid and Lanolips Banana Balm 3-in-1… both amazing!

Lanolips: 101 Ointment

                   Banana Balm 3-in-1
                   Lemonaid Lip Aid
                   Lip Ointment With Colour SPF

Thank you Essiebutton (Estée) and Amelia Liana for creating this tag for all us addicts out there!
